Did you hear the one about the lawyer bride suing her florist?

A recent bride who says the flowers at her wedding were not what she expected is suing her New York City florist, Posy Floral Design, for $400,000. The lawsuit states that the flowers used in the centerpieces were the wrong color and cheap looking, and did not match the color and look she wanted for her wedding. She spent almost $30,000 on her wedding flowers. Click here to read the entire article.

I’m not sure what I think about this. On the one hand, if the wedding flowers were nothing like what they discussed and what was stipulated in the contract than then couple has a right to a refund. But to sue for more than 10 times the amount of money spent seems extreme and just plain greedy.

What do you think? Does this story give brides a bad name, or is she right to sue for damages? Would you sue your wedding vendor?

I'm so sorry it took me a week to write about that wedding I had mentioned in DUMBO. I couldn't find the computer cable to download the images.

Anyway, that's me and my hubby at Brooklyn Bridge Park before the ceremony. Dave was a groomsmen. I just LOVED that the bride picked Gerber Daisies for the groomsmen's boutonnieres. Each guy wore a bright color – orange, hot pink or red – and the bride carried a multi-colored Gerber Daisy bouquet.

The ceremony was held in a public park, which has both pros and cons. The groom and a few groomsmen had to go to the park the day before and clean it. (There’s no guarantee the sanitation company will schedule a clean-up the morning of your wedding.) A crowd gathered to watch the ceremony, which I think is always fun, except for the one or two odd-ones who feel the need to make a lot of noise or walk up really close to the bride and groom during the ceremony. But there’s no real way to stop that unless you rope off the area.

If you’re planning to get married outdoors make sure you have a rain plan. This couple was lucky that it was a beautiful sunny day. Talk to your location site about a rain plan, or think about putting some tents on hold with a local rental company. You’ll have until the day or two before to decide if you’re going to need some coverage.

I'll write more about the wedding tomorrow!

When choosing your bridal bouquet make sure that the design and style of the blooms fits the style of your dress, wedding and is sized to fit you. Bouquets can get really heavy and you don’t want to be weighed down on one side, nor do you want to have to use both hands at all time – where would you hold the champagne glass?

Talk to your florist about the colors of your wedding palette and the style of your wedding dress. A full ballgown can be paired with a round bouquet or cascade shaped, while if you’re wearing a slimmer gown you may want to order a posy or nosegay. And the same rule applies for the space. An ornate ballroom would match well with a fuller bouquet, while a modern, simple bouquet would be perfect in a loft space.

The bouquet pictured above was designed by Janie Medley Flora Design located in Richmond, VA and servicing brides in the Washington, DC metro area. Janie's designs are so romantic. If you don't live near DC, I highly recommend checking out her site for beautiful inspiration.
