With a new wedding movie, 27 Dresses, coming out this weekend I thought I’d write about a few other wedding-themed flicks you may want to check out.

When I first got engaged, I knew that I wanted to get married at my grandparent’s house on Long Island. My parents got married there, and it was the place we went for all our family and holiday celebrations. My mom told her friend Merle about my plan and Merle suggested I watch Betsy’s Wedding with Molly Ringwald to see what having a wedding outdoors would be like.

Basically Betsy wants to have her wedding outside, and they don't get a weather-safe tent...well you get the idea. I don’t want to ruin it for those of you who haven’t seen it yet.

Wedding movies can give you ideas for your own wedding — a color palette, a cake, a dress, a floral arrangement or a unique detail. So pick up a DVD, or find something on cable, grab a bowl of popcorn, a notepad and a pen and plop yourself down on the couch.

Let us know what wedding films you enjoy and over the next week, I’ll post some more of my favorites.

And if you’ve already seen all the wedding movies Hollywood has to offer, you can test your wedding movie smarts with this new quiz!

By the way, Betsy's Wedding was not the reason I didn't get married at my grandmother's. There was a tree in the middle of the yard grammy didn't want us to cut down, and my parents wouldn't pay for a custom tent that would work around the tree. We had the rehearsal dinner - a BBQ - at grammy's and there was such a storm. It poured. Thank g-d we had a tent for the night, and thank g-d we didn't have the wedding there. The ground was soggy and muddy for days!
