I’m sure you’ve seen the previews for Katherine Heigl’s new movie 27 Dresses — in theatres Friday, January 18th. (Click here for tickets to a screening tonight, the 10th!) It’s the story of a woman who has been a bridesmaid 27 times. And unfortunately for her, her friends have the worst taste in bridesmaid dresses. I personally loved the underwater bridesmaid dress.

Whether you just started planning your wedding, or you’re half way down the aisle, I’m sure you’ve seen the rolling eyes and blank stare of your fiance more than a few times. I think I’ve written before about how you can’t expect your fiance to be as obsessed, I mean interested, in every detail of the big day as you are.

It’s important to take a break from wedding planning and hang out with your fiance without talking about your wedding. But that doesn’t mean you have to completely avoid the subject.

Plan a date night for the two of you. Go out to dinner and then catch 27 Dresses, a great romantic comedy that will definitely make you laugh as well as give you some great ideas for your own wedding. Remember that inspiration can come from anywhere.

While he’s enjoying a soda, popcorn and the film, you can take notes — mental notes unless you know that you won’t upset your groom by taking out a pen and paper — on ideas you get from the movie — a bridesmaid dress, floral arrangement, a cake, location or any one of the many ideas in the movie. And by the way, they served pigs-in-a-blanket at the rehearsal dinner sans mustard. You know how I feel about that so I won’t go into it again.

I took a lot of notes at the screening — 27 notes to be exact (completely a coincidence) — of lessons I’ll be writing about over the coming weeks.

And if you can’t get your fiance to go with you, go with your girlfriends. And after the movie you can tell each other how you really feel about the bridesmaid dresses you’ve worn to each other’s weddings.
